CHARTER FOR NIGHTLIFE WITHOUT DISCRIMINATION

Charter for a nightlife without discrimination
Copenhagen's nightlife is a social space that unfolds in the city's bars, cultural centers, venues, restaurants, clubs, music venues and festivals. When people meet here, it creates cohesion and togetherness for both locals and visitors.
As the evening and night progresses, nightlife also changes shape as people move from one place to another. Nightlife is therefore not one fixed entity, but is created by a multitude of different actors in Copenhagen. What all actors have in common is that they each play a role in shaping a safer and more inclusive nightlife for everyone. That is why a large number of nightlife actors have agreed on a Charter for a nightlife without discrimination.
The Charter is a series of initiatives that will create the framework for a nightlife that is inclusive, equal and safe for all. Signatories to the Charter take on the responsibility of taking the lead in combating any form of discrimination in nightlife – regardless of ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender expression, sexuality, physical appearance, age, social background, language or political opinion.
THREE SPECIFIC INVESTMENTS
The Charter focuses on three specific initiatives to combat discrimination in nightlife. The initiatives are the focus areas that signatories to the Charter commit to working on.
1
Communication
Together we must ensure the best possible communication and alignment of expectations regarding nightlife. We commit to being clear about the framework for the party, the expectations for guest behavior, and any entry requirements to participate in the party.
2
Handling
Together we must ensure the best possible handling of discrimination. Should a guest in the nightlife experience discrimination, the right processes must be in place to handle the situation, ensuring that the guest is heard, seen and taken seriously. Experience must then be collected to avoid similar situations in the future.
3
Prevention
Together we must ensure the best possible prevention of discrimination. Through exchange of experiences, education and the presence of non-discriminatory values, we must work on the culture of safety and security in nightlife.
